With their awesome MLB 2K09 and even more awesome The Bigs 2, you’d think 2K Sports would be all out of baseball sims for the year.
Not so fast.
They’ve got one more trick up their sleeves, and it arrives just in time for the World Series. It’s called Baseball Blast, and it’s exclusively for the Nintendo Wii.
The game is designed for younger gamers, with the focus being put squarely on mini-games like Flyball Fury (catch more flyballs than your opponents) and Dodge Ball (a pitching machine goes haywire and you’d better get out of the way).
But with all MLB teams represented, and with Bob “Mr. Baseball” Uecker and Rob Dibble doing the comical play-by-play, the game has enough stuff to keep older gamers (like the Sports Gamer himself) entertained.
Baseball Blast also features a challenging trivia mode for baseball eggheads, it supports the WiiMotion Plus peripheral, and the price is a very reasonable $19.99. Cool.
If your team, like mine (the awful Mets), isn’t in the ALCS or NLCS, trust me, cracking a few virtual homers in this game will make you feel a whole lot better. Recommended.
