US announces lineup for men's 1,600 prelims
BEIJING (AP) -Angelo Taylor was slotted to run the anchor leg for the U.S. men in Friday night's preliminary round of the 1,600-meter relay. Taylor won gold in the 400-meter hurdles on Monday, part of a U.S. sweep. The lineup also included David Neville, Reggie Witherspoon and Kerron Clement. Clement finished with the silver medal in the 400 hurdles and Neville captured bronze in the 400 after diving across the finish line, helping the Americans sweep that event as well. Sanya Richards drew anchor duties for the women's squad. Her relay team also included Mary Wineberg, Monique Henderson and Natasha Hastings. Originally, Dee Dee Trotter was slated as the anchor, but her knee was swelling so Richards was inserted as a late replacement. Wineberg and Trotter failed to make to the finals at 400 meters. Henderson and Hastings were part of the U.S. team's relay pool. ![]() |
