Romero wins all-British pursuit final
BEIJING (AP) -World champion Rebecca Romero has won the gold medal in cycling's individual pursuit, beating Wendy Houvenaghel in an all-British final. Romero, who won a rowing silver medal at the Athens Games and is the first British woman to win Olympic medals in two sports, finished the 3,000 meters in 3:28.321, about two seconds better than her countrywoman. Lesya Kalitovska of Ukraine beat New Zealand's Alison Shanks in the bronze medal race, finishing in 3:31.413. Britain now has eight track cycling medals in Beijing - one more than all other nations combined - and are favored in four of the five remaining velodrome events. ![]() |
