BEIJING (AP) -China's Zhang Juan Juan has defeated South Korea's Park Sung-hyun 110-109 to win the gold medal in women's individual archery.

Zhang, the 27th seed in qualifying, became the first non-South Korean to win gold in the event since 1980.

She defeated all three members of the South Korean team champions in the final three rounds.

Zhang beat Joo Hyun-jung, the No. 3 seed, 106-101 in the quarterfinals. She then beat No. 2 seed Yun Ok-hee 115-109 in the semifinals, tying the Olympic record score Park had set just hours earlier.

Yun won the bronze medal Thursday with a 109-106 win over North Korea's Kwon Un Sil. Yun defeated American Khatuna Lorig 111-105 in the quarterfinals.
