OH, ORDONEZ!

Magglio's having a monster month of August, mashing moonshots everywhere. Say that three times fast.

No doubt that Detroit Tigers OF Magglio Ordonez ($5,300,000) had been putting together an MVP-type season. But I did have one beef with Mags: while he was hitting for a great batting average, the power wasn't quite there. And he really came down in July, racking up a mere seven extra-base hits in 26 games. August has been a different story. So far this month, Ordonez has been blasting homers like their going out of style. This month, Ordonez is batting .451 with 6 homers and 20 RBIs. To put that into perspective, Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard ($7,100,000) holds the all-time single-season record with 41 RBIs in August. It took him 29 games to do it. Ordonez's 20 RBIs have come in just 13 games.

TROUBLE BREWING FOR THE FANTASY WIZARD

There's a rumor floating around in the land of SIKIDS.com that Ballroom Dancing Wizard Duane Munn did not appreciate being called out in last week's mailbag (check out the last question on Page 1):

I was told that Duane is plotting his revenge as we speak. This one is shaping up as another Harry Potter vs. Lord Voldemort. (Although probably with fewer readers.) Who will emerge as the superior wizard through verbal battle? Check in next week to find out.

THE NEWEST FANTASY WIZARD TRIVIA CHALLENGE CHAMPIONS

The third installment was a "name these brothers" question: The younger brother is in the Hall of Fame. The older brother made history in a much different way: He had the shortest career in major league history. Some great guesses, but the correct answer: The younger brother is Hall of Famer and former Milwaukee Brewer great Robin Yount. The older brother is former Astros pitcher Larry Yount. Big bro had a somewhat tragic story: on September 15, 1971, Larry Yount was summoned from the bullpen for his major league debut. But he hurt himself while warming up and couldn't pitch. Since Yount was "announced" as the new pitcher, he was credited with a game played. But he was never on the field for a single live pitch that day, and he never made it back to the bigs. For correctly identifying the Yount Brothers, the following eight readers receive my respect and admiration: Evan from Ohio, Robert from Michigan, Christian from Alaska (a two-time Champion!), Andrew from Minnesota, Aaron from Iowa, Seth from Kentucky (yet another two-time Champion!), Sam from New York, and Steven from New Jersey. I hereby proclaim each of you to be "Awesome," and you may now lead off this week's mailbag...
