Barry Bonds hit his 713th homer on Sunday night, moving within one of tying Babe Ruth for second place on baseball's career list. The San Francisco slugger hit a mammoth shot in the sixth inning off Jon Lieber, sending a 2-1 sinker off the facade of the right-field upper deck during the Giants' 9-5 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Pods Hot, Cubs NotKhalil Greene went 4-for-4 to tie his career high and drove in four runs to help the Padres beat the struggling Chicago Cubs, 6-3, Sunday for their eighth straight win. The defending NL West champs are above .500 (16-15) for the first time since Opening Day. The Cubs have lost six straight and nine of 11. They've been outscored 54-9 in their last nine games. Zambrano Done For SeasonNew York Mets right-hander Victor Zambrano will miss the rest of the season after the Mets placed him on the 60-day disabled list with a torn tendon in his pitching elbow. NBASan Antonio 87, Dallas 85Tim Duncan, a three-time Finals MVP scored 20 of his 31 points in the first half, giving his worn-out teammates the lift they needed to pull out the home victory. The Spurs were playing just 36 hours after closing out their first-round series in Sacramento, while the Mavs had been off since Monday. Bruce Bowen hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 2:15 left that ended up being the winner. His biggest contribution, though, was pestering Dirk Nowitzki into a forgettable game with what Dallas coach Avery Johnson called "bear-hug defense." Nowitzki was 8-of-20 for 20 points after averaging 31.3 in the first round. It was a bit of redemption for Bowen after not living up to his first-team All-Defense reputation against Sacramento's Bonzi Wells in the first round. On the game's final possession, which began with 13.9 seconds left, Nowitzki got the ball on the right side, but Bowen was all over him. When Nowitzki tried going right, Duncan headed his way. So Nowitzki threw a crosscourt pass to Jerry Stackhouse. Manu Ginobili nearly intercepted it, but Stackhouse recovered. He could've driven for a tying shot, but instead stepped back into the left corner and put up a well-covered 3 that came up way short. Game 2 is Tuesday night, also in San Antonio. Detroit 113, Cleveland 86Detroit made 10 3-pointers in the first half - one shy of an NBA playoff record - to open up a 21-point lead at halftime before cruising to a victory over the Cavaliers in Game 1 of their second-round series. The Pistons finished with a franchise playoff-record 15 3-pointers, on 22 attempts, and missed only one of their 11 attempts beyond the arc before halftime. LeBron James scored all of his 22 points in the first half, but the 21-year-old star had to work for each one. The two-time defending Eastern Conference champions turned the game into a rout with a franchise playoff-record 43 points in the second quarter against a team in the second round for the first time since 1993. The Pistons had four double-figure scorers in the first half alone, including reserves Antonio McDyess and Lindsey Hunter. Both had 12 at halftime - outscoring every Cavs player not named James in the first half. Richard Hamilton scored 20, Chauncey Billups had 14 points and 10 assists and Rasheed Wallace added 10 points and seven rebounds.
